The UWM Foundation, Inc. (“UWMF,” “we” or “us”) is a private, nonprofit corporation with a mission to support the educational, literary and scientific endeavors of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (“the University”). We respect the privacy of those individuals with whom we do business and those who visit our website (“Site”). The purpose of this UWM Foundation Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) is to describe how we collect, use, and share personal information, and the steps we take to safeguard the personal information you provide to us. This Privacy Policy does not apply to information processed by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. For more information about the University’s privacy policies, visit their website.
We may make changes to this Privacy Policy from time to time. Please be sure to check this Privacy Policy for updates from time to time. Each version of this Privacy will be indicated by the last updated date at the top. If we make material changes to this Policy, we will notify you, such as by posting the updated Privacy Policy on the Site or by otherwise notifying you of the changes.
WHO WE ARE
UWMF receives, manages and distributes gifts to benefit the University’s students, faculty, staff, to support the University’s programs and to benefit the community at large.
To advance the University and its affiliated organizations, UWMF collects data, including personal information, regarding students, parents, alumni, donors, prospective donors, beneficiaries of fundraising efforts, individuals who attend our events and from members of the community (collectively referred to as “Constituents”).
CATEGORIES OF PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
UWMF collects certain categories of personal information from you when you visit our Site, participate in UWMF activities, donate, or otherwise engage with UWMF. We have set forth below the categories of personal information we collect and some examples of the types of personal information in each category.

SOURCES OF PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We collect your personal information from the following sources:
From You Directly. We collect personal Information you provide to us when you engage with our Site, communicate with us, attend an event, make a donation or set up an account.
Using Technology. We automatically collect personal information such as your IP address when you visit our Site or create an account.
Outside Sources. We collect personal information from third party sources such as social networking sites, and information we are provided from the University regarding our Constituents.
We may also combine certain information from these categories for the purposes described below.
HOW WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:
To communicate with you. To communicate with you, to provide you information and to answer your questions.
To Serve our Constituents. We encourage our Constituents to interact with us, and the University in many ways. For instance, we may contact you by phone, mail, email, or other means to inform you of University-related news, to invite you to events that you may find interesting, or to ask you to make a gift. For example, if you were a graduate of the College of Nursing, a season ticketholder for Men’s Basketball, or have indicated an interest in career networking, we may communicate with you about those topics.
Donations. To receive, process and use donations and to thank you for donations.
Operations. To operate our organization and to process and secure personal information.
Market Research. We collect personal information to identify new friends and supporters as well as to expand our support networks. For example, we analyze data to understand topics our Constituents are interested in and build events, publications, or promotional materials related to those topics.
Improve our Services. We use personal information to improve the offerings we provide to Constituents and the content of our Site.Marketing. To notify you of upcoming events, to solicit donations and to offer a more personalized experience when you visit our Site; to reach potential supporters that may be interested in the University and its activities or supporting the mission of UWMF.
HOW WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
With your consent. We may share your personal information with your consent.
Within the University System. We may share your personal information with the University and the University’s alumni association in order to advance our mission, to encourage engagement, and to seek financial support.
Service Providers. We may share personal information with our service providers that support our operations. For instance, we may share personal information with service providers that provide data security services, mailing services, IT support, professional advisors and other service providers. We require those service providers to protect such personal information and prohibit them from selling or sharing such personal information.
For Legal Purposes. In certain instances, we may share your personal information for certain legal reasons, including:
- To comply with valid subpoenas, court orders, discovery requests or as otherwise authorized or required by applicable law.
- To assist government and law enforcement agencies.
- To prevent fraud.
- To enforce our legal rights, protect our property, and defend or bring legal claims.
For Analytics. We share limited personal information with third parties to perform analytics on our Site usage.
Business Transactions. We may share personal information in connection with a business transaction which requires us to provide such personal information as part of the transaction, including as part of a due diligence process.
COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES WE USE
UWMF uses cookies (small text files stored on your device) and similar technologies on our Site. Cookies allow us, among other things, to store your preferences and settings, combat fraud, and analyze how our Site is performing. Decline to Provide Information. You have the right to decide not to share personal information with us through our Site.

Industry-Standard Protection. We utilize industry-standard security measures to safeguard the personal information we collect, maintain, and use. These measures include physical, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your personal information. Although we work hard to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information.
Children. Our Site is not directed toward minors and UWMF does not knowingly solicit, collect, or disclose information from minors. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has provided us personal information, please contact us below and we will use commercially reasonable efforts to delete that information.
External Websites. Our Site contains links to other websites. Please be aware that UWMF is not responsible for and has no control over the privacy practices or content on those sites. Please review the privacy policies of those sites carefully if you choose to visit them.
