From the Chancellor: Introducing Joan Nesbitt

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to tell you that Joan Nesbitt, UWM’s new vice chancellor for development and alumni relations, stepped into her role today. Because of your support of UWM, I want to share with you more about the person who will lead our fundraising efforts.

As UWM’s chief development officer, Joan reports directly to me and serves as a member of my executive cabinet. She and her staff of 40 will continue to cultivate relationships and generate support for our students, faculty and the university’s top-priority programs and initiatives.

Joan was selected from a strong pool of national candidates. She has bedrock skills in communication and public relations, and decades of higher education fundraising experience. She has worked at the executive level for over 15 years, most recently as vice chancellor for university advancement at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO. During her decade at Missouri S&T, Joan and her team received a national award from the Council for Advancement & Support of Education (CASE), aligned campus fundraising initiatives with strategic planning, and launched a comprehensive campaign that resulted in S&T receiving the largest gift in the history of higher education in Missouri. Just as we at UWM have nimbly navigated the last many months of change, so has Joan in her role at Missouri S&T. I have every confidence that her agility and aptitude for relationship building will be an asset to UWM.

Please join me in welcoming Joan to her new role. You’ll hear from her directly via the upcoming edition of our development e-newsletter, Philanthropy@UWM, which will be delivered to your inbox next week.

Best regards,

Mark A. Mone, PhD
Chancellor
